How to stop Procrastination? in 10 secs.

Suffering from Procrastination? What is Procrastination? Procrastination is a fancy word for “resistance“, the resistance between you and the things you want to do or, should do! In such cases, many would say the “2-minute rule” by David Allen will be the ultimate solution — But, I am going to tell you about how I exercised my brain to stop procrastinating, as a new-year’s resolution of 2022 with a new rule ” 10 seconds countdown“.

Believe it or not, I used to procrastinate on every little things I do. When did I realise about this problem? — One day, when my girlfriend got angry about how “I always delay the works that I should do “. Later that day, I thought about what she said and its TRUE! I have been procrastinating on every little things like washing my clothes, cleaning my room, cooking, etc. ever since. Thats when, I started to work on “Stopping PROCRASTINATION”.

What is 2-Minute Rule?

It is a very cool idea of how to kick-start on a habit using the 2-minute rule by David Allen, an American Consultant. He states:

” If it takes 2-minutes to start a habit, then do it NOW “

See, To start a habit it only takes 2 minutes for sure! For example,

  1. Writing a Journal becomes write one paragraph a day.
  2. Reading a Novel becomes read one page a day.
  3. Start Running/Exercising becomes put on your shoes.

It seems easy right? — But it isn’t the same when you are actually starting! For example, One day, you thought of starting to wake up early and exercise — But, Did you really wake up and exercise next day? Mostly, NO! right??? The reason is simple:

  • There are always some 6–7 mini steps to do any work. — the thought of these steps, is what that resist our brain to do the work! Say, You want to start running. What are the mini steps to do?
  1. Leave your bed.
  2. Change Clothes.
  3. Go out.
  4. Run
  5. Come Home.
  6. Shower.
  7. Get back to Work.

To avoid procrastination, Don’t look these as 7 steps. Think of one step to complete at a time and there you go you have started developing one habit. And, One after another BOOM, in 2 mins you will go out running!

And, with this 2-Minute Rule , You can also use one more rule to boost up more and that is “10- seconds Countdown” Rule.

Why “10- Seconds Countdown Rule”?

I found out that this rule also really boost up our brain to get the work done! There are some reasons why it is also very useful to train our BRAIN to stop PROCRASTINATING.

  1. In Order to start the 10-secs. Countdown, You will have to clearly have an Objective i.e. first step, which comes back to the basic rule “One-Step at a time”.
  2. The Countdown brings your ideas into the real world and you start working towards the GOAL.
  3. 10-seconds don’t let you overthink your way back out of the action!
  4. Countdown puts you under a small amount of self made pressure.
  5. And, It offers a sense of a fun Challenge to complete.

Conclusion:

Whenever you are stalling, set the target and begin the “2 minute rule step-by-step” work with a countdown from 10. I will bet that you will start working and Once, you get in motion for the day, there is no stopping you.

STOP PROCRASTINATING and ACHIEVE EVERYTHING.
